Producer Sylvia Wilczynski

A graduate of the film production degree at UTS, Sylvia began her career working on documentaries and fiction for BBC and Channel 4 in the UK, and then worked in roles such as production manager and researcher on documentaries, shorts and features with some of Australia’s most renowned filmmakers. She has also been an assessor for Australian film financing agencies and was invited to the Rotterdam Producers Lab in 2011.

Her debut feature as producer, The Rocket (writer/director Kim Mordaunt) has won 45 awards, including three at the Berlin International Film Festival (Best Debut Feature, Crystal Bear and Amnesty International Film Prize), three at Tribeca (Best Narrative Feature, Best Actor and the Audience Award) and audience awards at over 10 film festivals including Sydney, Melbourne and the World Cinema Audience Award at AFI Fest LA.

It also won Best Film at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards, Best Original Screenplay at the Australian Writers’ Guild Awards and Best Director at the Australian Directors’ Guild Awards. It received a 100% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Rocket has received distribution in over 20 countries including the US, Canada, UK and Australia.

Sylvia has produced a number of other films with writer/director Kim Mordaunt, including the highly acclaimed feature documentary Bomb Harvest for ABC TV and Discovery HD, sold to TV in over 20 countries, the SBS TV documentary Speed City and the Young Filmmakers Fund short drama Mongrel’s Ghost.

She is currently developing (as producer) two fiction features with writer/director Kim Mordaunt,   Pink Mist (with assistance from Screen Australia) and Flowers of the Dead. She is also developing One Crowded Hourbased on the acclaimed book of the same name by Tim Bowden, about iconic Australian war cinematographer Neil Davis, together with producers Todd Fellman and Lance Kelleher, to be directed by Kim Mordaunt, writer Andy Cox.
